Thanks to Kelly Newcomer for designing the Stroll Patrol logo, Stroker Ace screen printing (34th & Lyndale) for free screen printing of the Stroll Patrol vests and Philip AuClaire for pulling this all together. 3/31/06 Message From Michael Zebuhr's Family My heart aches over the recent tragedy and death of our son and brother, Michael Zebuhr. Mike was such a wonderful, creative, energetic, and loving young man. Many people are grieving with us. We wish to sincerely thank the people of Minneapolis, especially the Uptown neighborhood, Hennepin County Medical Center and the Minneapolis police for their generosity, compassion, and for their cooperation with the investigation. Mike was well loved and will be missed by family, friends and colleagues in Buckhannon, WV; at Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, WV; and at Clemson University, Clemson, SC; and across the country. We want to thank everyone for sharing their love, generosity and compassion with us during this extremely difficult time. CARAG Stroll Patrol Guidelines 3/7/06 CARAG Stroll Patrol walking patrol CARAG remains a relatively safe neighborhood, but the rise in burglaries and armed robberies has drawn concern from many neighbors. So, early this year the CARAG Crime & Safety Committee and other CARAG residents decided to establish a crime watch walking group- the CARAG Stroll Patrol. The Stroll Patrol will walk the neighborhood in brightly colored vests creating a presence to discourage criminals and to promote crime prevention to the community. The Crime & Safety Committee will meet on Monday, March 13, 6:30pm @ Bryant Square Park to finalize details of the Stroll Patrol and begin to schedule walking patrols. The first Stroll Patrol walks will likely begin in April. Contact CARAG for more information. 3/2/06 Lake Street Reconstruction Lake Street will be completely reconstructed from Blaisdell Avenue to Dupont Avenue in 2007. The design of the roadway is now being finalized and your input is needed. Join us for the Lake Street Reconstruction Visioning Workshop on Monday, March 13, 5:30pm @ Bryant Square Park. 1/31/06 Calhoun Square On January 27 the Minneapolis City Council approved the Calhoun Square redevelopment rejecting CARAG's appeal of the projects zoning approvals . 1/19/06 Calhoun Square The Minneapolis City Council Zoning & Planning Committee voted to forward CARAG’s appeal of the Minneapolis Planning Commission decision (to approve zoning requests for the Calhoun Square redevelopment) to the Minneapolis City Council with “no recommendation”. The full City Council will hear the issue at their Thursday, January 26 th Committee of the Whole meeting and Friday, January 27 th City Council meeting. No public testimony will be taken during these meetings. 1/18/06 Calhoun Square Redevelopment The Minneapolis Planning Commission “approved revised plans for the proposed mixed use redevelopment on 12/20/05. CARAG neighbors voted to appeal this decision to the Minneapolis City Council at the 12/20/05 CARAG Neighborhood Meeting..The appeal will be heard by the Minneapolis City Council Zoning & Planning Committee on Thursday, January 19, 2006, 9:30am @ Room #317 City Hall. Summer 2005 Bryant Square Park Master Plan CARAG endorsed the Bryant Square Park Conceptual Master Plan document, which describes a series of conceptual improvements to guide improvements to the park over the next few decades. Here's a black and white version of the new CARAG identification sign to be installed around the perimeter of the neighborhood. Look for the new signs this spring. A contest was held in 2005 and this winning design by Bruce Cochran was selected at the CARAG Annual Meeting in September.
